A freeze frame stops a video on a single moment and holds it. It is a classic movie and TikTok trick: the action stops, a narrator says something like “Yep, that’s me,” a record scratch plays, and the story rewinds to show how things got that far.

How to make a freeze frame video
- Upload your clip. Drop in an MP4, MOV or WebM file. It never leaves your device.
- Pick the moment. Scrub the timeline, step frame by frame with the arrow keys, and press Freeze here. Press it again at other moments to add more freezes.
- Choose a style. Start with a quick style such as “Yep, that’s me,” then adjust the look, zoom, caption and sound.
- Preview it. Press Preview result to watch the full sequence with sound.
- Export the MP4. Download the finished video and post it to Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts.
The effects, explained
- Record scratch, tape stop, shutter and impact. Built-in sounds that play the moment the video freezes.
- Caption. Add text with a pop-in or typewriter animation in three styles.
- Zoom. A slow push or a quick punch-in, aimed wherever you click on the picture.
- Look. Black and white, sepia or cool tones, plus an optional vignette and white flash.

Tips for a better freeze frame
- Freeze on a strong expression or a mid-action pose. Moments with clear emotion or movement read best.
- Keep the caption short. Four to six words is plenty at phone size.
- Use vertical video for Reels, TikTok and Shorts. Choose the 9:16 shape and the blurred edges option for landscape clips.
- Bring your own sound. Upload a voiceover or sound effect to play at the freeze.

Can I use the trending audio from TikTok or Reels?
We can’t include copyrighted trending clips. The tool makes its own record scratch, tape stop, shutter and impact sounds, and you can upload your own sound or voiceover to play at the freeze.
What video formats and lengths work?
MP4, MOV and WebM files that your browser can play. Clips up to 5 minutes work, but short clips of 10 to 60 seconds export fastest.
Why does exporting take a while?
The video is rendered frame by frame in your browser, so longer clips take longer. Keep the tab open and visible while it exports. Chrome and Edge on desktop are the fastest.
Will the export be an MP4?
In Chrome, Edge and recent Safari the export is an MP4 (H.264). If your browser can’t do fast MP4 export, the tool records the result in real time and may save a WebM file instead.
Can I freeze more than one moment?
Yes. Press Freeze here at each moment you want to freeze, up to eight in one video. Every freeze has its own caption, look, sound and rewind, and you can copy one freeze’s style to all of them.
Does the rewind effect include sound?
Yes. The sound of the rewound section is played backwards at the rewind speed, with a tape whirr on top. You can choose 2×, 4× or 8× speed.
